On Wednesday, May 13, 2009, the seventh annual John M. Templeton Jr. Lecture on Economic Liberties and the Constitution will discuss “The Culture that Gave Rise to the Current Financial Crisis.” This event is at 6:30 p.m. at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. John C. Bogle, founder of the Vanguard Group and Chairman Emeritus of the National Constitution Center; Peter J. Wallison, Arthur F. Burns Fellow in Financial Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute; and Douglas Kmiec, the Caruso Family Chair and Professor of Constitutional Law at Pepperdine University’s School of Law, will participate. This event will consider the social, cultural, and moral causes of the current financial crisis in the United States.
In 2005, Sir John Templeton wrote a memo forecasting an economic crisis, “Financial Chaos.” A few months ago we posted this memo, which includes Templeton’s predictions for the economy, higher education, and technology. In 2005, Templeton stated that “the peak of prosperity is behind us.”
This event will shed light on the events and behaviors that led to our current economic state.
